Steve
McNair, was a talented
professional football player who
spent his career as a quarterback for the
Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans and
Baltimore Ravens of the National
Football League. McNair played
collegiate football at Alcorn
State and was drafted third
overall in 1995 by the Houston
Oilers, now known the Tennessee
Titans.
After the 2005 season, on June
7, 2006, McNair was traded to
the Baltimore Ravens where he
spent the remainder of his
career before retiring in July
2008. McNair spent 13 seasons in
the NFL, taking the Tennessee
Titans to four playoff
appearances; and led the Titans
to Super Bowl XXXIV where they
lost to the St. Louis Rams
23-16. He also led the Baltimore
Ravens to one playoff
appearance. Steve was the
Tennessee Titan's all-time
leading passer and was selected
to the Pro Bowl on three
occasions in 2000, 2003, and
2005. He was also named Co-AP
NFL MVP in 2003.
At the time of his death, Steve
was married to Mechelle McNair,
in which they had two sons.
McNair also had two other sons
by two other woman.
Steve was the victim of a
murder-suicide in which he was
killed by his mistress,
Sahel
Kazemi. McNair met
Kazemi at a Dave & Buster's
restaurant where she worked as a
server and where he often ate
with his family. McNair and
Kazemi started dating in the
months leading up to the
shootings. Steve was shot two
times in the head and two times
in the chest. After killing
McNair, Sahel Kazemi committed
suicide by turning the gun on
herself shooting herself in the
side of the head. The bodies of
McNair and Kazemi were found in
a condominium rented by Steve
McNair in Nashville, Tennessee.
Prior to McNair's death, he and
Kazemi had been pulled over for
which Kazemi was arrested for
driving while under the
influence. The gun used in the
shootings had been purchased
after the traffic stop by Kazemi
from a convicted murdered she
had previously met. It is
thought that Kazemi, who had a
worsening financial situation,
believed McNair was in another
extramarital relationship adding
stress to the situation. In text
messages sent prior to their
deaths, Kazemi had asked McNair
to wire money in her bank
account so that she could pay
bills.
Steve McNair is buried in
Griffith Cemetery, in Prentiss,
Mississippi.
The official cause of his death
was listed as a homicide with gunshot wounds to the
head and torso.
